Eczema Clothing

When you have eczema clothing can play a large role in how often flare-ups occur.

Often, when people think about triggers to avoid, and decrease the amount of flare-ups that occur with eczema, they often think of different chemicals that are used within the home, such as the soap and detergents.

The clothing that is worn each day is often overlooked. However, by choosing the right materials, you'll be able to reduce the amount of flare-ups that you have from the eczema.

How Clothing Affects Eczema

When you have eczema, your skin is much more sensitive to different outside influences. While a certain type of clothing may not affect someone without the condition, those with eczema can quickly experience a flare-up if they use clothing that is not made from the right material.

The material can vary based upon each individual case, but there are some that are known to be irritating, and should be avoided if possible.

Eczema And Clothing Material

All of the clothing that is found on the market is made from either natural or synthetic material. When synthetic material is worn by someone who has eczema, it can aggravate the condition.

Synthetic clothing is often made from materials that are composed of different chemicals, which can be the biggest trigger for those with eczema. A certain type of clothing may not irritate the skin at first. Yet, prolonged exposure can cause a severe adverse reaction to occur.

If you've had a flare-up from one specific material, you are advised to reduce the use of all synthetic materials, which will reduce the risk of another flare-up occurring.

Safe Clothing Choices

When you have eczema, choosing clothing that is made from all natural material will stop irritation from occurring. The safest clothing choice is 100 percent cotton material, which does not contain fillers.

Some people may experience a reaction to cotton if it is treated with chemicals. If this is the case, you can choose to buy cotton clothing that is made from organic material. Organic cotton has not been treated in its natural form, or when it is turned into different clothing pieces - making it a safe option.
